Mike Davis BBS CA CPP - Director

Mike completed a BBS (Fin. Accy), majoring in Accounting and Finance, and continued his qualifications and experience to be accepted as a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as a Chartered Accountant and holder of a Certificate of Public Practice. He now has his own practice where, from offices in Waikanae, covers both the Wellington and Kapiti regions.

On leaving school Mike completed his Fitting & Turning Apprenticeship in 1984 and progressed to become Factory Manager at William Cable Limited.

Mike and his wife Melanie left New Zealand in 1990 to travel throughout America, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East and Asia. After 8 years of travel and work in England they returned home to New Zealand.

Outside of work Mike’s passions include classic cars, tramping, engineering, hockey and enjoying life with his wife and three children.

April Close BBS CA – Senior Accountant

 

April is a high achieving Chartered Accountant and we are truly stoked to have her join our ranks to fill the role of Senior Accountant.  April brings with her a wealth of experience and no shortage of accomplishments.

April is also an active community member - Treasurer with Levin Toastmasters,

Committee Member of the Manawatu CAANZ Young Accountants’ Group and Co-founder of the Horowhenua New Professionals Networking Group!  We regard these closely aligned qualities as highly complementary and integral to our own values here at Davis & Co.

 

April does of course find time for her own passions and pursuits too, so don’t be surprised if you see her on a ski slope, out for a hike, travelling and exploring or experimenting and enjoying some tasty kai.

Kelly Smith – BAcc - Graduate Accountant

Kelly has been with Davis & Co since May 2015, returning to the workforce after extensive travelling and raising a family.

Before joining us Kelly worked on cruise ships for eight years where she met her husband, Jon, and returned to the beautiful Kapiti Coast to raise a family. She enjoys yoga, spending time down the beach with her family and tries to get out on her mountain bike as often as she can.

Kelly has been one of the top extramural students at Massey University and finally completed her Bachelor of Accountancy graduating in May of this year.  In her first year of study she won the First Year Distance Student Academic Award.

Kelly is a Certified Xero Advisor.

Mandy Evans – Office Administrator

Mandy joined the Davis & Co team in September, 2018 and is our Office Administrator ‘extraordinaire’. Mandy is an English expat enjoying life on the Kapiti Coast. Mandy emigrated in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since.

During her career, Mandy has frequently been under the ‘admin’ umbrella, performing a variety of tasks for some very interesting organisations. As the IT world has changed and developed so have Mandy’s skills. For a while Mandy was an IT Tutor, teaching IT software packages to employees working for a large pharmaceutical company. Mandy’s a bit of an all-rounder and enjoys the challenge of embracing new skills, meeting new people and delivering quality results.

In her spare time Mandy enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, taking the dog for long walks on the beach and gardening. Mandy also occasionally dabbles in a bit of painting (both the arty sort and DIY).

Melanie Davis MHRINZ- Human Resources Consultant BA, Grad. Dip. in Personnel Management

Davis & Co Chartered Accountants offer an in-house Human Resources advisory service to all our clients.   Melanie Davis is your go-to, one-stop-shop HR specialist!

Melanie has been in the ‘people’ business for 25 years.  She has worked both internationally and nationally and in large corporate, public sector, privately owned small and medium enterprises and iwi based organisations.

She has done it all…graduate recruitment, generalist consulting, Health and Safety, Employee Relations, Human Resource Management, union relations including collective bargaining, restructuring and personal grievance management.

Melanie has a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management, Certificate in Employment Relations Management, Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing and is a qualified Saville & Holdsworth Occupational Test Administrator.

She is a member of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ) and formerly a Member of the British Psychological Society and Graduate Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development (IPD).

When not at work you might find her enjoying our local river, beaches and bush.  She loves the snow so don’t be surprised if you bump into her having a coffee at the top of Whakapapa.
